Music for 3/11/20!! Recondite, DJ Jasss, Angelica Garcia

@@@ Recondite: Dwell (Ghostly, 2020) From the Twatter!  A German electronic musician and the first track comes out a bit sci-fi and a bit spooky surveillance state.  Very manicured and delicious sounds on this first track with a disciplined techno  aesthetic but more melodic.  Soothing and appropriate music to chill to as the virus spreads!  How is that for a review???  I’m enjoying the pacing as it comes with small new sounds in a measured but steady tempo.  The third tune, Black Letter is the closest to a straight dancefloor banger with it’s variation on the unt-sss beat but if you head out to the dancefloor for this look over your shoulder — something dark is on its way!!!!

@@@ DJ Jasss: Turbo Ole (N/A, 2020) Also from the Twatter!  The two song EP is called Whities 027 which is an absolutely fricking brilliant title but the only track available to stream on the bandcamp is the track listed above.  Ms. Jasss goes for a modified frat boy break beat thing with a little jarring melody and weirdness over the top of these pumping beats.  This show will make you sweat for sure.  I like the high energy of the track but I feel like the melodies kind of clash with it — they’re more jarring than spurring the track on.  Of course, this is my personal opinion that anybody can use as their toilet paper.  I guess she’s going for an epic, almost arena rock feel for the track, regardless of the melodies.

@@@ Angelica Garcia: Cha Cha Palace (Spacebomb, 2020) A bandcamp album of the day a few days ago and I’m always up for some Latinx music.  Old and new from all over the region(s) I’m good for it.  This first tune is mostly electro but the most notable element is Garcia’s dramatic voice, she feels it.  It’s passionate and it’s quite uncommon for a first track to be titled ‘I Don’t Believe in Death’.  Just to be clear Ms. Garcia is from Virginia (source: bandcamp) so she’s here in America and American and the vibe here is a blend of Latin sounds and American feels.  Lord knows I don’t want to be xenophobic in this time of xenophobia.  Her lyrics and delivery are confessional and rock star at the same time.  These are interesting arrangements and I dig this record.  As the tunes progress the record is more rock than Latinx music which is an observation not a judgment.  I end up feeling she’s a different version of PJ Harvey — larger than life and in your face.
