@@@ I am Snow Angel: Mothership (I Am Snow Angel, 2019) I saw this female electronic musician/producer namechecked in the diy recording studio magazine Tape Op’s monthly email. On this first tune she’s rocking what I would call a combo of indie and New Age sounds mixed into an ambient package. This formula expands with the second tune when breathy female vocals come in. It’s well done, not my personal cup of tea, but it’s well done. It’s an updated Kate Bush thing that has the potential to appeal to lots of people.
@@@ Lady Gaga: Stupid Love (Interscope, 2020) We had Beyonce and Jay Z’s Crazy Love now we have Lady Gaga’s Madonna style Stupid Love. I’m not sure she chould have put a bigger bite on Madonna’s ’80s hits, the track files probably have teeth marks! From the biting that is. I find Lady Gaga to be one of the more manipulative musicians rocking the public these days. She’s so malleable in her image both sonically and image wise that she ends not really being much more than a hologram with a heartbeat. She’s anything you want her to be as well as nothing at all. The sounds are not unique but they’re manicured and the vocal hook is not as catchy as the synth arrangements and the added glitch. I was expecting more than this warmed over disco. This sounds strictly for the bank account.
@@@ Neck Deep: Lowlife (Hopeless, 2020) Talk about biting it hard. This is some updated slack punk that bites Green Day, Superdrag, and many many others that came before them. I’m betting this goes straight to the heart of shopping mall teens looking for some plastic wrapped rebellion. Sad sad America, turn away from the simulated, lifestyle soundtrack. They keep hooking on the phrase ‘fucking boring’ and I couldn’t agree more! Lose your shit, do something.
@@@ Keith Urban: God Whispered Your Name (Hit Red/UMG, 2020) Loping Jimmy Buffett style country music off the Apple Music hot tracks section. I like the mellow keyboards and the production does a great job of wrapping you up in a warm blanket of lyrics but the lyrics….oy, get the biscuits out and slather some of this high end cheese on them while they’re still cooling on the counter! I can hear this blasting in the southern suburbs in houses that have benefitted greatly from stock market bubbles. High end pickup truck in the driveway and a big ass barbecue big enough to grill a moose. People who embrace this music still have all their teeth!
