@@@ Havok: Conformicide (Century Media, 2017) How can you not listen to a record called Confomicide? It’s a brilliant record title. After a little acoustic guitar intro we get into the classic metal, oops let me add a little Red Hot Chili Peppers funk bass to go with the slabs of guitar bizank and a blend of metal drums and arena rock drums. The singer in this first tune alternates between a Anthony Kiedis funk grunge thing and a stressed out/red bulled orc. This first tune F.P.C. (fuck political correctness) has all these elements and some riffing guitars straight into some classic thrash. At this point in my life I don’t even really know what political correctness is so I won’t comment on the lyrics. The second tune Hang ’em High is a Republican anthem with the line ‘the enemy does not come from overseas’. He’s right but it all depends who he’s pointing fingers at. I won’t be hanging around to hear his suggestions.
@@@ Flagship: The Electric Man (Bright Antenna, 2017) Some annoyingly bright indie electronic off the Apple Music new music section. The opening track is called Mexican Jackpot and it has plinky guitar in the verse and then an explosive chorus that has plenty of cheese sauce. The singer has gone a bit Bono epic in this second Midnight. The rest of the band as well, and they’re evoking Bon Jovi as well. Oh, behold those whoa ho background vocals! Gorgeous gorgonzola! Let’s peep more. Oh my, the third song The Ladder just climbs to level of cheese indie rock (aka chindie) that most bands can only dream of.
@@@ Mark Porkchop Holder: Let it Slide (Alive Naturalsound, 2017) I got a bunch of PR emails about this record but I have not checked this record out until now. From the images below I 100% approve of Holder’s look. He’s got some white trash punk to his music but it’s got some mainstream rock in there as well. I like his voice and his playing on this first tune. I dig this second tune and the third tune is a rough style ZZ Top tune — straight drums, big crunchy guitars and a woman causing her man some problems. Check out Monsieur Porkchop, he’s surprisingly sensitive.
