Music for 11/16/16!! Imarhan Timbuktu, Sleigh Bells, Tall Black Guy

@@@ Imarhan Timbuktu: Akal Warled (Clermont, 2015).  Some desert blues that I might have heard a snipped of before.  I got to this from a friend of mine who asked if I knew this musician.  Circular electric guitar melodies, hand drumming and call and response vocals.  The guitarist is blazing and the songs are pretty standard, trippy North/West African blues.

@@@ Imarhan Timbuktu / Dintchere / Ousmane Ag Oumar: Timbuktu Echoes (Nolan, 2016).  Okay, this is the record my friend was talking about, so I will leave that pocket reiew of the Timbuktu record above and give this record a peep.  The big difference on this first tune is the guitar playing is acoustic and not full electric.  It lends a more hippie campfire vibe to the proceedings.  This second tune is trancy and hot and I’m feeling the acoustic guitar playing.  In the course of looking around for something to listen to I see that this record is split between the three groups above.  Timbuktu is on five tunes and the rest are split between the two younger groups.

I’ve searched pretty hard and I can’t find any snippets from this record so you’re going to have hit it on the streaming stores if you go that way.

@@@ Tall Black Guy: Let’s Take A Trip (First Word, 2016).  Left field hip hop off this week’s All Music notable release email.  Mr. Tall Black Guy is pumping some black hippie laidback vibes, some quiet storm funk, and hip hop.  At least on this second tune.  Let me cut and paste this review above the tattooed lady in the pool cuz I don’t want to give the appearance that the black music is last here.  Far from it.  The beats are super scuplted and particularly hot on the third track and there are some swirled jazz vibes up in here as well.  Mellow organ, some trumpet action.

@@@ Sleigh Bells: Jessica Rabbit (Torn Clean, 2016).  Some indie mainstream rock electro off this week’s All Music notable release email.  Power chords, drum machine beats, and big female vocals.  There’s a strong ’80s flavoring to the sounds, especially the chorused guitar on the second tune Torn Clean.  This band is slotted as noise pop on Apple Music, and that’s really a bit deceptive, it’s just pop rock.  Big production, sicky sweet melodies.
