Everything wrong with the music business

On the front page of Apple Music the one sentence describing Lady Gaga’s new album is as follows:

On her most personal LP to date Gaga aims for authenticity.

If you’re aiming to be authentic that’s proof you’re not authentic.  Having shifting personas is something that I would credit David Bowie with starting, then Madonna rocked it, and now Lady Gaga is following a similar trajectory.

So I guess Lady Gaga and her marketing team have decided that it’s time for an authentic phase.  The manipulation, the marketing, the playing with perceptions is all right behind that word authentic.

Just another way for Lady Gaga to cash in.
