@@@ Britney Spears: Private Show (RCA, 2016). Oh my they have sucked so much low end out of Spears’ voice she sounds like she’s four years old. And when she’s singing about sliding down the stripper pole and giving you a private show and she sounds either like a four year old (or Alvin the Chipmunk) the whole sounds so demented. Oh Brit, they took all the fuzz off your peach!!! I feel like a child molester just listening to this song.
@@@ Carnifex: Slow Death (Nuclear Blast, 2016). Off the banner on the heavy metal section of Apple Music. It opens up dramatical with some faux classical piano and some tense strings and some metallic clashes, but I expect the bruising to commence. Ah, enter the caveman/orc!!!! This drummer is insane — Imma thinking bag of crank and Red Bull smoothies for this dude. It’s fairly brutal, the production is pretty shiny and flattering, I don’t think I love the lyrics (when I can hear them). Maybe if Britney could throw a little four year old girl action on top of this I’d be more excited.
@@@ The Burning Hell: Public Library (Headless Owl Records, 2016). Some upbeat, minimalist indie in the vein of Lou Reed/Velvet Underground but without the smack and the downerism. Literate lyrics (and a lot of them!) and even a horn part in this first tune. Some pretty strong Pavement vibes in this second song. I’m about four tunes in and I don’t think this singer and his style is working for me — it’s just a tad too light.
@@@ Phonte: Tigallerro (Foreign Exchange, 2016). A super smooth hip hop/r&b fusion blaster that I got to via this week’s All Music. Extremely manicured with some nice sounds. I like the second tune better than the first. I think I’ve always been a bit prejudiced against this polished new r&b sound as I’m a huge fan of old Curtis Mayfield jams. This is much better music for romancing than Britney’s new tune indirectly celebrating child molesting.
