@@@ Lor Scoota: Swear to God Prod (N/A, 2016). I saw in the Guardian that this Baltimore rapper Lor Scoota was murdered so to be a white person that commemorates this needless violence I thought I would check out Mr. Scoota’s music. Scoota had a tight flow on the microphone and while he’s pretty deep into the drug dealing, the weed and other topics closely associated with the hood I can’t criticize him for it as he was needlessly murdered. Very strong skittery beats and a serious bass thump.
@@@ BADBADNOTGOOD: IV (N/A, 2016). This Toronto jazz outfit draw thrilling, psychedelic connections according to All Music. I hear some jazz instrumentation but mostly I hear indie sounds with some Beach Boys style production. A little old school and faded. I like the vibes in this first song, but not the sax and as I said before some saxophones does not jazz make. This second tune, Speaking Gently, is even more indie with a sort of spraying electric harpsichord/organ sound. Just when you thought nobody could water down jazz after Martin, Medeski and Wood, somebody came along and took a piss in the jazz pool. I would highly recommend Ornette Coleman’s 1959 record Change of the Century and then get back to me.
@@@ Assaulter: Crushed by Raging Mosh (ThrashAssaulter, 2016). Some mostly classic metal off this week’s heavy metal email that I get. Definitely some Motley Crue pubes mixed with some Metallica bush as well. The singer is now on stage and he is definitely sporting some pissed throat singing. I dig the power chord action and the drumming. The drumming is pretty frantic and spraying with touches of thrash. This second tune Hand Maniac is most likely a hymn to masturbation. Maybe not, ha! They’re better when thrashing than when being classic metal riffing hair boys.
