6/9/16: Fantastic Negrito, Yanni (Fucking Yanni!), Xenia Rubinos

@@@ Yanni: The Great Concert: Live from the Egyptian Pyramids (Not sure, 2016)  One great thing about streaming services is that you can get your freak on and peep shit you would never buy.  Like this unbelievably awesomely dramatical New Age classical live record from Yanni.  If you’re a young one out there, you have to peep Yanni, he’s the coolest motherfucker ever.  Nobody rocks it like Yanni — he’s got the full Monty going here and he’s doing it in Egypt.  Harp, and strings, and synthesizers, and electronic drums and old school disco beats.  It’s hard to describe but you can’t fuck with Yanni.  This second tune sounds like the Elf Queen from the Lord of the Rings went to a disco, popped an upper and shit got mad juicy.  Juicy J/Miley Cyrus juicy people.  He’s got a trumpet player taking a mad mozzarella solo over a disco beat on this second track and then congas.  Oh Yanni, you magnificient bastard.  I think I can hear the Muslim Brotherhood at the back of the pyramids putting down their weapons and nodding their heads as Yanni drops science on the masses.  Cleopatra juicy.  I guess PBS broadcast this concert live and I’m gonna have to make time for that shit, but it is interesting to see what a cheesy arc across the sky the self-absorbed baby boomer generation has made.  Started with Neil Young and finish up with Yanni!  That pretty much says it all.

@@@ Fantastic Negrito: The Death of Oakland (Blackball Universe, 2016)  An electric blues commemorating the death of Oakland as the tech fuckers take over.  I guess somebody should make one about San Francisco because the tech fucker tumor is only killing Oakland because it spread from San Fran.  Oh lord.  The third tune, Scary woman eases up on the electric blues and moves more into the big band soul.  Organ, horns, it’s in that vein.  I gotta peep this tune The N***a Song.  I don’t know why this record is listed on the Apple Music as rock when it’s much more of a blues tune.  Fuckin’ tech fuckers.

@@@ Xenia Rubinos: Black Terry Cat (Anti-, 2016). A fat sounding indie r&b record that I got to via the All Music notable release email.  Whoever tracked and mixed this record should get a gold star yo.  The sound is mostly in between classic sound and newer r&b sounds with a kinda quirky female singer.  This third tune, Mexican Chef, ups the blood pressure a whole bunch.  Nice quasi-rockabilly guitar and banging rhythm section.  Stylish political lyrics as well.  Imma gonna have to swing back on this record — the sounds are hot and the songs are not fully hooked out as there has been some thought put into these tracks.  God forbid.
