@@@ Poison Headache: Poison Headache (Metal Blade, 2016). A couple of post-hardcore metal tunes off an upcoming banger that you will be able to feast upon in early June. This record has two tunes up for pre-release streaming and these guys are all hopped up on Red Bull and maybe other stimulants. Oy. A hardcore singer, a metal drummer, and a guitar player that glues it together. Big metal solo before he goes back into the lurching rhythm guitar work. Let’s peep this second biscuit, Conspirator. This one burns, fuck me, nice smashing of drums with blasts of guitar smegma. I feel the anti-social feeling rising within me. I want to burn something to the ground or watch a riot, or set up a porcupine mosh pit. Fill in your own anti-social observation/participation as you see fit. Excellent for folks who suffer with low blood pressure.
@@@ Moderat: III (Monkeytown/Mute, 2016) A record of techno instrumentals by a techno supergroup. I do not know who these techno superstars are, but I will accept their marketing that they are indeed a techno ‘supergroup’, which is kind of a curse. It opens up downtempo and robot bleep-y and machine sounds. I like it. A blend of trippy and ambient and funky. The second tune, Running, is clubbier. This third tune as well, and while I’m not jumping up and down there is some really nice arranging going on here and this is definitely higher end techno than what you usually encounter out there.
@@@ Casket Girls: Tears of a Clown (Graveface Records, 2016). A single off an upcoming summer banger that I got to via a music publicist email. This is an interesting track in that the bass/guitar frequencies are sound like they’re being handled by some big synth blasts (or it could be an electric bass). Droll female singer taking the piss out of American society over pretty standard and okay sounding drums. It gets squally towards the end which I dig.
@@@ Summer Flake: Wine Won’t Wash Away (Rice is Nice, 2016). I got to this Australian indie rock band via a music publicist email. If the Breeders had a love baby with the Beach Boys it would sound like this song. Faded guitar indie. Female singer working long droll tones, over classic rock drumming and guitars that are a little psych but mostly standard.
