Prince said what no big artist (no, not Tay Tay) would say!

From here:

Prince took a stand against Spotify, quoting the line, “Spotify is co-owned by record labels, who hold 20 percent of the company’s stocks.”

When Prince talked about getting paid in advance for his music everybody thought he was crazy.

But guess who gets paid in advance when a music streaming service wants a label catalog on their service?  That’s right, the big label that has the catalog.

So Prince doesn’t get paid in advance for his music but the label does.  Either cash payouts or ownership of the service.  I happen to think that getting paid in advance for music is risky for anybody as nobody can ever say how a music recording is going to go over.

The point here is that if people are going to get paid in advance for records or hold ownership why labels and not artists?
