@@@ The Range: Potential (Domino, 2o16) Some highbrow indie electronic I got to from the CVUW weekly playlist email. This first tune has a vocal sample about not having a back up plan if he doesn’t make it and the he garnishes that with a decent synth bass, techno beats, and some angel flavored digital bits for your listening enjoyment. This second tune is a club ballad — big synth puffs, the old school handclap, and a dramatical vocal sample. He’s also got a bit of drum ‘n bass tucked back in there. I don’t intend this as an insult but this guy should work for Disney as he’s got that tinkly, uplifting vibe working big time.
@@@ Parquet Courts: Human Performance (Rough Trade, 2016). Also off this week’s All Music notable release email. I’m trying to make myself like traditional indie guitar rock and thus far it’s not going well. These guys are a slacker update on the Velvet Underground with a tad of Pavement slyness mixed in. Oh my, this title tracked (clipped below) is a pretty good tune that is also exactly as I described.
@@@ Tim Hecker: Love Streams (4AD, 2016). Off this week’s All Music notable release email. I’ve enjoyed Hecker’s ambient music previously so he earns a peep on this new one. This first tune has a flute and a pulsating synth to start it out. I don’t love this first tune, so let’s move on. This second tune features a chopped up vocal choir over a bed of slowly undulating synths. Imma gonna check one more tune but I don’t think this record is for me. Eh, this third tune is a bunch of popping synth twerts, maybe others out there will super dig this.
@@@ RONiiA: Sisters EP (Totally Gross National Product, 2016). A riot grrrl synth punk EP I got to from a CFUV weekly playlist email from about a month ago. How you gonna love her if you don’t even know her? You dig? No guitars here and shit and lots of lyrics about being lonesome. I’m not a huge fan of the indie electronic, but I like this better than most. Possibly due to its mopey nature.
