@@@ Ed Motta: Perpetual Gateways (Must Have Jazz, 2016). Some mellow, straight jazz with strong jazz fusion flavorings that I got to via this week’s All Music. The overall vibe of the first tune is Steely Dan with a little less edge and cynicism. Instrumentation is piano, horns, electric bass, electric organ, drums and bass. This most definitely for fans of Steely Dan.
@@@ Basia Bulat: Good Advice (Basia Bulat/Secret City, 2016). Some blue eyed soul with noticeable indie and mainstream rock influences that I also got to via the All Music weekly email. Not burning enough to be old school r&b and a tad too black to be indie (white people!) She’s a blond cutie and they’ve put little psych rock touches here and there for hipness in what I see as an attempt to attract both mainstream and indie listeners. Instrumentation is standard rock band with vintage space organs and electronic garnishes. The third tune, Let Me In, is the best of what I heard. I can’t find it for you to listen.
@@@ Goatblood: Supremecia de Satanas (Dunkelheit, 2015). Some true straight up satanic metal out on the imprint Dunkelheit. Production is somewhat lo fi, guitars buzzy as fuck and a gravelly voiced caveman fronts this outfit. Horns up ya shittaz! The drummer has that suffocating thrash working. There’s some anti-women song titles on here which I roundly denounce and I have clipped the tune Ejaculator Goat Insulter. This is another track dedicated to that ill fuck Antonin Scalia.
@@@ Archie and the Bunkers: Self-titled (Dirty Waters, 2015). Some organ/drums punk blues I got to from a twert off the Twerter by indie hipster gateway CMJ. Think early White Stripes but with an organ. I like the drummer, he’s tight and the organ sounds are pretty righteous. If the lyrics were a little less standard I would be all over this record like stink on a monkey.
