@@@ Sleaford Mods: Key Markets (Harbinger Sound, 2015). I saw on the Guardian’s best records of the year and saw this record on their list. I was a huge fan of last year’s collection of digital singles, Chubbed Up. Man, they unleashed some most tasty classed based bile up from the working class towards the wankers at the top. They’ve retained the same formula — cheap drum machine beats, simple punk bass, and unique rhymes. If you haven’t peeped this old school punk turned ghetto hip hop with a healthy dose of anti-social bile check these gents out. They don’t give a shit if you check them out but you will be better for it. I like the production a bit better on this record than on Chubbed Up and this tune below is pretty wicked. If I have time during my end of year listening Imma gonna roll back on these dudes.
@@@ Sleater-Kinney: No Cities To Love (Sub Pop, 2015). Some bands don’t age well, they get all soft and fucked up. Like KISS, god how I hate the KISS. Sleater-Kinney hasn’t gone soft. Their shit is tight and while purposely not quite as fierce, they still bring a pretty incredible amount of energy to the game. The opposite of Wilco, let’s say. The record is lighter on the power chords and sports more single line guitar playing, some of it kinda ’80s and it comes across as tongue in cheek but who knows? The third tune, Surface Envy I think was the promo single and it really starts to raise the blood pressure. This tune below was of my favorites that I heard.
