@@@ Israel Nash: Silver Season (Loose Music, 2015). Well this record was recorded to tape according to the blurb on the Beats highlights page so it must be awesome. The first tune is a alt-country space rock kinda jam and Nash has that fragile Neil Young/Alex Chilton kinda voice. It’s a pretty sweet tune, but be careful of the album fade. It’s a full rock band with multiple guitarists including slide. After a spacy intro he gets into another mid tempo alt-space jam this time with wah wah guitar featured as a guitar. The third tune The Fire and the Flood gets into the downtempo ballad, which I’m enjoying less but it’s still alright. Imma gonna circle back on this record, check this guy out you might dig him.
@@@ Saintseneca: Such Things (Anti-/Epitaph, 2015). This is the blurb from All Music for this record: ‘Moving on from folk, this Ohio band delivers a spiraling exercise in focused, ambitious, well-produced indie pop.’ Ah, where to start with the destruction of the hype machine. I hear no spiraling, I don’t even no what spiraling is in music. I hear a lot of repeating melodies, is that spiraling? Ambitious? Again, what is ambitious music — if it’s super adventurous and challenging, then this is not ambitious music. I object to the over inflating of music. If it’s good, it’s good, let’s leave the spiraling and the ambition out of it. This band is good at harmonizing vocals and they’re trying to bring back that old school Byrds folk-rock sound using today’s indie sounds. The tunes are sweet/bittersweet
@@@ Wildman: Sun Drug (Sun Drug Records, 2015). A cheesy rock/electro mash tune I found on the Beats highlights page. This dude sings like he has a cucumber stashed in his leather pants. Rock star bitch! Oh, he’s whoo hoo-ing his ass off in the chorus. I can see this passed off as funky at the super white boy frat boy parties as they hump the keg and any other thing that walks by (even the other bros). He’s got a little yearning break towards the end of the song to show you how sensitive he is. Yeah, yeah cucumber boy.
@@@ Selena Gomez: Revival (Interscope, 2015). She’s naked on the Beats record page so this is today’s edition of the soft corn porn/music industry. And she’s panting on this first tune like she’s about to cream her blue jeans. She’s trying to get heavy with her lyrics, but I’m not sure I buy it. The sounds are exquisitely placed electro pieces — she’s on Interscope and you know they had studio rats in Pro Tools for weeks putting these pieces together. She’s an okay singer but she’s not tasteful. Okay, second track it’s opening up with the resonating piano chords, I expect an epic club ballad/banger. Too much reverb on her voice, oh yeah right on time. You think I’m a fascist and she just does exactly what you think she would do — there’s your unt-tss, unt-tss, and the synth bass, and the cheesy tones are starting to pour into the arrangement. You kill ’em with kindness (and nudity) sex kitten Selena Gomez! She’s got the horny goin’ big time on this third tune Hands to Myself.
