Quarter Street: Quarter Street (Hope Street Recordings, 2015)
A burning salsa record that fires on all cylinders. Great rhythm section, super bumpin’ horn section and great vocal arrangements. Wicked conga, trombone and trumpet solos on the third tune, Los Golpes Ensenan.
This is not an album that opens up with a burner and then has a mid tempo tune and then a ballad. I’m listening to the fifth tune, Libre Soy, and it hits as hard if not harder than the opener. Relentlessly energetic in all areas.
If you are a non-urban white person and you’ve never heard or checked out salsa, do yourself a favor and peep this record. These guys have style and energy and a love of music.
