@@@ Slayer: Relentless (Nuclear Blast, 2015). Veteran metalheads Slayer that I got to off the Beats highlights page. Opens up with the tune Delusions of Savior and it has a mid tempo very Metallica feeling. That is your instrumental opener and I have a feeling we’re heading into beatdown territory. And I’m right — the second tune Relentless features thrash drumming with sporadic drum fill blasts, speed metal riffing and a pretty punk vocalist. You can hear his antisocial lyrics, apparently he hates the fucking scene. I hear you. I like the straightforward/no bullshit approach of this band and the drummer and the guitar player are really catching my ear.
@@@ The Last Vampires: Hollywood Vampires (UME Direct, 2015). Hair metal/glam rock cover record. I’m listening to them do My Generation right now. Big guitar sound, stringy metal bass, not the same drummer for sure. Lacking the speed and intensity of the original. Oh fuck me, this has to be the worst cover of Whole Lotta Love ever. Yikes, it’s clipped below and you’ve been warned.
@@@ Candice Pillay: The Mood Kill (We Are, 2015). Some r&b/hip hop off the Beats highlights. The first tune Poor Girl is more hip hop with strange autotuned voices and the second tune, In the Wind is a slow ballad. I hear West Coast beats, club synths, and the use of looped voices as instruments which is interesting but I’m not finding the tunes to be very compelling.
