@@@ Akitsa: Grand Tyrans (Hospital Productions, 2015). Some heavy metal from a band that is a favorite out at Aquarius Records in San Francisco. R.I.P. San Francisco I’m sorry to hear about the tech assholes that have overrun your once beautiful city. The first thing I notice about the first tune is how much it sounds like Husker Du — buzzy as fuck guitars, almost blurry, and a mid tempo thrash punk simple drum beat and then just a wailing voice. Simple and desperate. The second tune is much more of a rocker with a boogie element to the vocals and guitar sounds. The vocals are in French and are mostly intelligible — I don’t think of the French as being a proud flag carrier of heavy music but this is pretty hot shit and I’m going to check it out more when I have more time. Oh wait, I’m an asshole these guys re Canadian and there’s a whole lotta awesome metal coming out of Canada.
@@@ Goatsnake: Black Age Blues (Southern Lord, 2015). I will listen to any band with the word ‘snake’ in it. Tangerine Snotsnake, Intergalactic Alien SnakeBallz, you get the idea. I also listen to as many records from Southern Lord as possible, they are a quality outfit. After a faux blues intro in the first tune it gets right into the stoney crush. A lover boy hard rock singer and a headphone filling wall of guitars. Big rock production while not sounding cheesy. It’s not one of my favorite Southern Lord releases but check it for yourself.
@@@ Bleachers: Like a River Runs (RCA, 2015). Some mainstream electro pop I got to via the Beats Highlights page. Very New Age, very uplifting, very cheesy. Big tom fills, big monster chorus hooks, cliche lyrics about rivers running and getting the rhythm of your wild heart. That’s really a lyric in this first tune. Oy.
@@@ Bomba Estereo: Amancer (Sony Latin, 2015). Off the Beats highlights page. A major label Latin record that combines elements of hip hop, club music, and Latin music. Oh and a little funk music as well. I like it okay.
