@@@ Mastery: Valis (The Flenser, 2015) Off last week’s Aquarius Records’ weekly email. I’ve heard some proggy-ness and art school rock, but this is some straight up goblin metal. Dirty, buzzy and careening all over the place. Quite a unique hot mess — wow, this is exhausting to listen to, I can only imagine what it must be like to make this music. To me this is not your classic metal, this is more than a bit crusty with some grind and blackness. Just a total train wreck of a shitty diaper — really good work out of this band.
@@@ Made Violent: On My Own (StarTime Intl, 2015) From a music publicist email. A tablespoon of Green Day Sauce, some white rock blues boogie, the Strokes on espresso with a little crunch in their skinny jeans. Also Weezer dude, lots of big pop crunchers you dig? Big rock ‘n roll energy with fairly low IQ — lots of talking dirty with malt liquor.
@@@ Miniboone: Basic Song (Ernest Jennings, 2015). From a music publicist email. A bit of They Might Be Giants, some Violent Femmes, and those guys…..oh they got a long name and they do television show themes. Christ my hard drive/memory is getting corrupted. Bouncy bass, sophisticated white boy vocals, get yer indie quirk on.
@@@ Keroscene: Cotton Candy (Dream Machine, 2015). Some British noise rock that isn’t very noisy at all. Maybe there’s gonna be a shoegaze noise explosion, but this sounds a bunch like Swervedriver and a bit like U2. I prefer truth in advertising and they’re raising the temperature towards the end of the tune but it’s medium noisy pop.
