@@@ Skinny Lister: Cathy (Xtra Mile, 2015). A Brit rock tune I got to via a music publicist email. The singer sounds a little like Joe Strummer and a bunch like that Boston Irish punk band. Fuck, searching the hard drive. Hard drive broken. Big singalong chorus complete with whoa hos and aggressively strummed acoustic guitars in the verse. Frat boy anthem rock for love.
@@@ Kayo Dot: Coffins on Io (The Flenser, 2014). Off an Aquarius Records music nerd best of 2014 list. I would slot this as a male Kate Bush — an aiming for sophisticated blend of instruments and electronic elements. Definitely songs with an earnest male singer. The second tune comes on a bit more proggy and has an updated Yes sound. It’s a bit too meaningful for me.
@@@ Beans on Toast: New Orleans Wedding (Xtra Mile, 2015). A Brit doing a New Orleans influenced old school party track. Tuba playing the bass part, simple kick-hi hat rhythm and the vocalist with occasional horns and a drumstick work. It honors old time New Orleans music which I can get with.
@@@ Juan Waters: She Might Get Shot (Captured Tracks, 2015). An indie folk dittie I got to via a music publicist email. Waters has a very nice voice and he’s got a vintage sounding bass bumpin underneath the strummed acoustic guitar and the congas. A well done, light ironic track.
