@@@ Dinosaur Feathers: Control (Earnest Jennings, 2014). Super pop injection indie electronic I got to via a music publicist email. White boy falsetto vocals, drum machine hand claps, above average synth hooks, with synth droplets in the background. Reminiscent of Prince in a straitjacket without the guitar. Brush your teeth after you peep this, it’s mad sweet. Like stomach ache, let’s go commit a crime sweet.
@@@ Small Reactions: Terrorangles (Not sure, 2014). Ah, the 1990’s are starting to get recycled — a tablespoon of firehose, some Built to Spill, and some Superdrag. Tasty guitar tones, a little bit of static whipped into the vocals and a straight back drummer. Some nice, melodic bass figures and it gets a bit jammy at the rear end of the tune. I got to this via a music publicist.
@@@ The Singles: Look at How Fast a Heart Breaks (Not sure, 2014). If Buddy Holly a gay baby lovechild with Alex Chilton it would have a band like this. Not strung out on speed Chilton, more the early poppy stuff. A medium light bit of muscle a lot of chocolate sauce on the sundae. Not groundbreaking music, but it’s hard to get these vocal melodies sounding right.
@@@ Harassor: Into Unknown Depths (Dais Records, 2014). Some medium brutal metal off my weekly email — the drums sound more rock than super frenetic metal, the guitars buzzier rather than waves of static and filth, but the singer — the singer is a total Neanderthal — full Lord of the Rings orc grunting and whooping. The second tune, Frozen Soil, gets into more of a kick snare thrash neighborhood. Ooh, the third tune is hot. It opens up with the scream, Oh you fuckers you want to live forever and dives right into the hardcore/thrash circle of riffs and drums.
